Welcome to apply for SDU “China Studies” Program

 

To whom it may concern:

   Shandong University wants to inform you of a new master program called “China Studies’’ which will be taught in English. Through this letter we want to introduce this program and would appreciate if you would share the content of this letter with staff, friends, students and anyone else who might potentially be interested in this program.

 

Shandong University Profile

Shandong University falls under the direct jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education and is a key comprehensive university with a long history and a strong academic background. Shandong University is also a member of Project 211 and Project 985, two national key projects designed to further raise the academic development of high-quality Chinese universities. Because of projects such as these the quality of education has made considerable progress and Chinese universities have become far more competitive when compared internationally. This improvement has not only had an influence on international academic rankings but has also enabled Shandong University to better serve the needs of China and its provinces. Shandong University has thirteen disciplines that rank in the top 1% in the world according to the Essential Science Indicators (ESI). Shandong University is located in the land of Qilu (Shandong Province), which is the birthplace of Confucius. Shandong Province has a great deal of profound traditional culture. Shandong University is renowned for its cultural disciplines such as literature and history. Its emphasis lies with Chinese culture and tradition as well as cultural exchanges with western countries.

 

Program Profile

1. Master’s degree program

The master program China Studies is taught in English and is open to postgraduates who do not have the Chinese nationality. This master program only recruits postgraduates of foreign origins and who are in the possession of a Bachelor Degree. China Studies contains six modules on Chinese economics, politics, law, literature and media, philosophy, history and geography related to tourism. The program is flexible in ways of graduation. This means that a student can finish the program in either one, two or three years. The teaching method consists of a mix of theoretical study and practical work to enable students to develop their academic as well as professional capabilities. In this manner students will be committed to research and gain intrinsic knowledge concerning Chinese culture and society which will enable them to become professionals that will enhance international cooperation and exchanges in the fields of politics, economy and many cultural dimensions.

 

2. Credit program

Students can freely select credit courses in this program. The duration for this program can thus vary and be either 2 semesters, 1 semester or summer school (4-6 weeks).

Teachers working for the China Studies Program at Shandong University have a lot of teaching experience, a broad knowledge on conducting scientific research and international experience. Shandong University has more than 70 teachers working on subjects related to this program. These include 18 Professors and 23 Associate Professors. Apart from our own teachers at Shandong University, we also invite famous scholars and experts from other national and international universities to instruct or give lectures.

 

3. Application

The deadline for Master program application is on the 30th of June, 2016. Applicants who intend to apply for Chinese Scholarship (CGS-BP Scholarship http://www.csc.edu.cn/laihua/scholarshipdetail.aspx?cid=93&id=3065 or CGS-UPP Scholarshiphttp://www.ipo.sdu.edu.cn/index.php?m=content&c=index&a=show&catid=91&id=2789) are required to deliver application materials no later than 31th  March, 2016 to the following address.
